Gravity Girl is a Go!

Why Gravity Girl?  Why not!

Ever since I can remember, I have always had trouble sitting still.  To keep me occupied, my parents would sign me up for all kinds of sports and activities.  Soccer, swimming, gymnastics, dance…  But something happened when they signed me up for ski camp and mountain bike camp.   If the sport had me going down hill and fast I loved it!

Several people who I look up to have been talking to me about starting a blog.  Telling me I should share my stories.  Stories about what it is like to be a girl who is serious about gravity sports.  This summer I decided to go for it.  Gravity Girl is the result.

In this blog, I hope to share with you a bit about myself, the sports I love, the people who inspire and are mentoring me, along with my focus on health, fitness and training so that I can become the best athlete possible.  I will try to share the good and the bad – the victories and defeats.  I’m excited to get started and look forward to sharing lots of great stories with you along the way.

To start, I thought I would share a couple photos that will take you back to the beginnings of me sliding and riding down the slopes.

Winter – The Sliding Start…

J6 Racer

If you ask my parents if they can remember the specific moment they realized I loved skiing they will tell you yes – the day they picked me up from my first ski lesson.  I was crying – not because I didn’t like it but because I had to stop skiing – the lifts had closed.  The instructor told them to find a racing program and they picked my current team CMAC.  Here is a picture of me when I first started racing.

Summer time – The Riding Part…

Little Rider

When school was out for the summer that meant time for summer camps.  I think my mom signed me up to try them all.  Then she found Cascade Bicycle Clubs summer camps run by Kat Sweet.  After my first dirt camp I was hooked.  Duthie Hill became my summer playground.  This picture is from my first trip to Whistler.  I was 5 or 6 – I still have that Kona Makena. 🙂
